Treble Cone offers one of the largest snowboarding areas in New Zealand, covering around 1300 acres. This region is known for more advanced riders, providing the most challenging runs in the South Island. Even though there is more difficulty at Treble Cone, there are some beginner-friendly areas, and they also offer free lift tickets to them!

For intermediate riders, Coronet Peak is one of the top destinations to go. Though there is not much annual snowfall, they make up for it with excellent grooming and safe terrain to advance and enjoy runs. The underlying terrain is grassy, so there is little risk, even with the minimal snowfall.

Found between Wanaka and Queenstown is Cardrona, one of the most popular snowboarding destinations in New Zealand. Cardrona is known for being family-friendly and providing excellent views on the tree-lined slopes. The terrain is known to be friendlier toward beginner and intermediate riders.

The area at Mt Hutt is located on the edge of a mountain, so it offers excellent runs for advanced snowboarders. There are also a variety of backcountry routes available for those looking for more of a challenge. Mt Hutt is a great place to find fresh powder after heavy snow.
